Project:Mentor

We’re working with schools and partners across Leeds and Bradford to help children unlock their potential by placing sports coaches as mentors to engage, motivate and support.

Sport is an incredible tool. It can raise self esteem, improve physical and mental health and build resilience. It can develop communication and social skills and helps children form better, stronger relationships with their peers. It can give children an outlet for their energies, release the pressure they are under and even change how they feel about themselves and their schools.

Project:Mentor isn’t a catch all approach. Every child is different and has their own unique challenges, so we talk to schools and education professionals to learn more about each child and then match them to the right coach mentor. We develop a planned intervention and agree measurable outcomes, so that we can see positive, real life and important changes.

If you know a child that you think would benefit from Project:Mentor support please get in touch. A conversation cost nothing and it could change a young life.

We’d love to help.

Feedback from Class Teacher Lucy Read @Immaculate Heart Primary School

Clifford recently came to work in our school and support a child who was struggling to achieve their potential and settle into the routines of school life.

It was immediately clear that Clifford’s demeanour, personality and work ethic were ideal for working with children and supporting their needs. His warm, calm, encouraging and positive nature enabled him to develop a fantastic rapport with the children and he was a fantastic role-model for all the children in the classroom.

Clifford demonstrated that he wanted to really get to know his pupil and he was willing to try a number of different approaches to try to establish which methods may foster the greatest success with his pupil. Even when faced with challenges, Clifford’s positivity and determination continued to flourish. Clifford showed great consideration, sensitivity and flexibility when developing routines, relationships and working practice with the child in his care.

All of the staff who worked alongside Clifford were really impressed with his manner and approach with the children. We all really enjoyed working with him and benefitted from his calm, positive, respectful and caring temperament. All the children in the class relished and very much looked forward to sessions with Clifford. He was a firm favourite with all the class and I have no doubt that he will always be remembered by all the children.

Our school would be delighted if we had the opportunity to work with Clifford again.
