The Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership is a nationally recognised qualification that enables successful learners to lead groups of people in sport/ activity, under indirect supervision. The qualification teaches generic leadership skills such as organisation, planning, communication and teamwork through the medium of sport.
This is the ideal course for coaches who want to gain a useful multi sports level 2 - this can lead to paid coaching opportunities as level 2 is the minimum deployment standard for coaches to lead a group.
This qualification will allow learners to gain paid coaching opportunities with PE Partner and other organisations. PE Partner will look to offer paid coaching opportunities to learners where we feel they are ready.
Qualification objective The aim of the qualification is to prepare responsible, motivated and confident people who can lead safe, purposeful and enjoyable sporting and recreational activities.
How it works
Course Content This curriculum has been developed by PE Partner and Sports Leaders UK to help learners become leaders.
The content is delivered by tutors with many years of practical coaching experience in real life situations, will give candidates a range of knowledge and help them to develop their own effective coaching style.
This is a multisports award and will give coaches a useful tool kit of transferable skills.
This course requires an element of practical delivery (10 hours) and PE Partner can help candidates to gain those hours both through its partnership with community clubs and through it’s own commercial coaching arm.
The qualification will take approximately 42 guided learning hours in total. The aim is for candidates to complete the course within 2 months of the start date. Candidates can be reassessed over a 2 year period if required.
Structure of course The course will be very practical, with lots of active participation and coaching delivery so candidates will be expected to take part
in drills and demonstrations wherever practical.
PE Partner enrols students onto the Level 2 Sports Leadership course and pay all candidate course fees and provide all resources
Students attend 2 full weeks, Monday – Friday from 9am – 3 30pm at a PE Partner holiday club (these are situated all over the city). Next course is in Summer 2022.
Students work with PE Partner lead coaches and mentors whilst the clubs.
Students will plan and deliver activities at the club under supervision and will evidence their work and progressions in the Sports Leadership candidate pack.
Day 1 and Day 2 are unpaid. Day 3 – 10 are paid at a Level 1/assistant coaches rate @ £5 per hour x 6.5 hours per day x 8 days = £260.00 income for the student whilst completing the course.
All students must attend a 2 hour induction prior to the course and will have an end of course assessment. They will also have mini assessments throughout the course and self reflection sessions with their Lead coach/mentor.
This course is by invitation only and all candidates must attend an interview to get a place on the course.
All coaches must undertake a new PE Partner DBS that they will have to pay for to access the course, PE Partner can not accept portability of DBS. PE Partner DBS applications are processed by Atlantic Data.
Successful coaches may be offered additional paid coaching work by PE Partner at the Level 2 rate.
